KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has sent a letter of demand to Harakahdaily, relating to an alleged defamatory article about 1MDB insinuating him in its website.
Messrs Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak represented Najib in delivering the notice to Harakah managing director Dr Rosli Yaakop and Harakahdaily editor-in-chief, Taufek Yahya, at 3 pm Thursday.
The article in question allegedly appeared in Harakahdaily on Feb 19, under the heading, ‘DANA 1MDB BIAYAI SYARIKAT FILEM RIZA AZIZ?(BHG 2)’.
According to the letter of demand signed by lawyer Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun, the article was libelous and mala fide.
It said allegations in the article were totally baseless, unfounded and very serious, as well as ill-intentioned to smear and destroy Najib’s image.
In the letter, the legal firm is demanding that Harakahdaily stop publishing further defamatory statements pertaining to the issue against Najib within 48 hours from yesterday.
It is also demanding that Harakahdaily issue a written unconditional apology and remove the alleged defamatory article, on its terms, within 48 hours.
Harakahdaily must also prepare a letter pledging not to issue anymore libelous or similar derogatory statements.
The letter further said legal action would proceed against Harakahdaily, should it fail to respond within 48 hours. – Bernama
