PASIR MAS – A handyman was charged in the Sessions Court, here, today with the smuggling of four foreign migrants on Dec 12, this year.
However, no plea was recorded from the accused, Radzi Halim, 37, when the charge was read to him by the court’s senior registrar, Mas Rashid Mustafa.
The accused, from Kok Lanas, Kota Bharu is accused of smuggling into the country, four suspected Myanmar nationals, Naing Naing Aung, Myo Elwin, Soe Hwin and Myo Min Lwin.
The offence is allegedly committed at 7.30pm on Dec 12 at a roadblock mounted by the Malaysia Border Control Agency (AKSEM) at Simpang Empat Salam, Rantau Panjang, here.
The charge under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 carries a jail term of up to 15 years or a fine, or both.
