MALACCA – Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team driver Lewis Hamilton thrilled the crowd when he made a surprise appearance at the 2015 Petronas All About Youth Programme kick-off here today.
The reigning Formula One world champion also joined the 340 participants, who were students from schools in the state and Pagoh, Johor to construct towers using newspapers and stationery, a group challenge that was assigned during the one-day boot camp.
Hamilton who was on a one-day visit to Malacca is scheduled to make another surprise pit stop at Petronas StreetSmart Programme at SMK Seri Tanjung, Tanjung Kling later today.
He will end his tour by visiting Petronas’s refinery complex in Sungai Udang near here in the afternoon.
Hamilton will compete in the second round of this year’s Formula One race at the Sepang International Circuit on March 29.
He was the winner of the 5.543 km circuit in last year’s race.
Hamilton won the season-opening Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park, Melbourne on March 15. – NST
