SHAH ALAM – Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the proposal of PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to retain him as Selangor menteri besar would be up to the Sultan of Selangor to decide.
He, however, thanked Abdul Hadi even though Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had the final say in the appointment of the new menteri besar.
Asked on the possibility of him being retained as Selangor menteri besar, Abdul Khalid declined to comment further.
Yesterday, Abdul Hadi was reported as calling for the Port Klang assemblyman to continue as menteri besar to resolve the state’s political crisis but it was shot down by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Youth.
PKR Youth chief, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said Abdul Hadi’s suggestion was against the majority of the Selangor state assemblymen in selecting PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the new menteri besar.
In another development, Abdul Khalid said he would be meeting the four state executive councillors (from PAS) this afternoon to discuss further the restructuring of the state’s water industry.
“After the meeting, we will make several announcements, especially on the terms of the agreement between the state and federal governments.
“Nonetheless, the text of the agreement will be circulated soon as the companies involved will also be holding their extraordinary general meetings on the sale of shares,” he told reporters, here, today.
He was met after opening the 2014 Multaqa Imam, Guru Takmir, Imam and Selangor State Mosque Committee programme here. Also present was Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.
Asked on the latest development in the taking over of Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sdn Bhd (Splash) by the state government, Abdul Khalid said the process would be made at the second stage of the water industry restructuring.
Last Friday, the federal government and Selangor government signed the master agreement to finalise the restructuring of the water industry in
Selangor, which also supplies water to the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
With the signing of the agreement, Air Selangor Sdn Bhd, a new entity will take over the operations and maintenance of water treatment plants and water supply services which were earlier provided by four concession companies. – BERNAMA
