KULIM — Prolific Italian rider, Andrea Guardini of Bardiani-CSF won the first stage in the 2018 Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) cycling race from Kangar to Kulim Hi-Tech Park today.
Chief Judge, Ibrahim Omar, however, declared that the top ten finishers including Guardini clocked the same time of 3 hours 29 minutes and 04 seconds after crossing the line in a bunch finish in the 147.9 km race.
It was Guardini’s 23 stage win, having secured five stage victories in 2011, six in 2012, one in 2013, two in 2014 and four wins each in 2015 and 2016.He is making a return the LTdL after a one-year absence.
With the win, Guardini , 28, who is better known as ‘Mr Langkawi’, grabbed the Yellow jersey as overall leader and also the Green jersey as King of Sprint after collecting 19 points in three sprint zones— Kerpan, Alor Setar and Guar Cempedak.
South Korean rider, Seo Joonyong of KSPO Bianchi Asia Procycling Team who finished second, secured the White jersey as best Asian rider while China’s rider, Wang Bo of Hengxiang Cycling Team won the Red Polka Dot jersey as King of Mountain. — BERNAMA
