KUALA LUMPUR – Kazakhstan’s Astana Pro Team rider, Andrea Guardini set a phenomenal 20 stage winS in the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) after seizing victory in the Stage Five today.
The 26-year-old Italian who has 19 stage wins under his belt, including the Opening Stage victory from Kangar to Baling on Wednesday, clocked three hours, 18 minutes and 50 seconds in today’s race that involved a distance of 148.8km from Tapah to Dataran Merdeka here.
For the record, Guardini, fondly known as ‘Mr Langkawi’ has won five stages in the 2011 edition, six (2012), three (2014) and four stages last year.
His teammate, Colombian Miguel Angel Lopez Moreno, retained the yellow jersey as the overall leader despite failing to finish among top 10 riders.
China’s Wang Meiyin of Hengxiang Cycling Team and Malaysian rider, Muhamad Adiq Husainie Othman of Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG), retained the polka dot jersey as the King of Mountain and Best Asia rider, respectively.
Malaysia’s veteran rider, Loh Sea Keong, representing the Malaysian National Team bagged the Combativity award as the most aggressive rider for the third time in the 2016 LTdL after the second stage on Thursday and fourth stage yesterday. – BERNAMA
