KUALA LUMPUR – The special refund scheme for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was properly conducted by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD), the 2015 Auditor General Report (Series 2) revealed today.
It said, however, some weaknesses, including inefficient management of special refund claims and lax reviewing and approving of applications, were found during the audit done between October 2015 and January 2016 by the National Audit Department.
“To ensure better management of GST claims, it is recommended that all claims to be reassessed by the Audit Quality Assurance Branch of the Compliance Management Division to ensure special refunds are not erroneously paid to claimants,” it said.
The report also recommended that the RMCD enhance the monitoring of input tax credits simultaneously with the special refund claims, if any, before approving any claims. – BERNAMA
