KUALA LUMPUR – The number of companies registered for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) stood at 130,554 as of Nov 8, 2014, an increase of 672 from the previous day, said the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.
In a statement, it said the data showed a continuing increase in the number of companies registering for the GST, with the Dec 31, 2014 deadline.
“The government’s target is to get 140,000 companies to register under the new tax structure to be implemented on April 1, 2015,” it said.
Last Wednesday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had said there would be no turning back on the implementation of the GST.
Judging from the daily increase in the number of new companies registering for the GST, he was confident there would be about 200,000 firms GST-registered by year-end. – BERNAMA
