JOHOR BAHRU -Â Fresh graduates should not be too choosy about jobs during current uncertain economic times, said the Permaisuri of Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah today.
“Under current uncertain economic conditions, it is surely a challenge and there are obstacles to getting the dream job, and the competition is stiff.
“Therefore, graduates should be smart in grabbing the opportunities and whatever programmes organised by the government that would help you get jobs,” she said when officiating the first session of the 55th convocation ceremony of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) here today.
Raja Zarith Sofiah, who is also the university chancellor, said graduates should also not forget the parents’ sacrifices in supporting and motivating them in their studies.
The convocation ceremony this time will see 5,543 graduates receiving their scrolls including 325 obtaining their Doctorate degrees; 951 masters; 2,988 bachelor’s; 633 diploma and 651 UTMSPACE diploma collaboration programmes.
Of these, 406 are international graduates from 30 countries.
She also conferred the Honorary Doctorate Degree in Management award to Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and the Honorary Doctorate in Engineering award to President of the London Imperial College, Professor Alice Gast. – BERNAMA
