KUALA TERENGGANU: Some RM200mil in subsidy will be absorbed next year by the Government to ensure the cost of performing the Haj by Malaysian Muslims remains at RM9,980, said Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said the cost of performing the Haj had increased to RM19,550, up by almost 100%.
“The Government wants to ensure the 22,320 Haj pilgrims will only need to fork out RM9,980. We will absorb the remaining of RM9,570,” he told reporters after closing the 33rd National-level “Muzakarah Haji” in Kuala Nerus near here yesterday.
Jamil Khir also urges those who had previously performed the Haj but had again been listed to decline and allow others to go.
He added that the first batch of Haj pilgrims under TH will officially be flying off on July 24. the last flight will be on Aug 25.
They will be flown back starting Sept 7 while the last flight will be on Oct 4, 2017.
Earlier in his speech, he had cautioned Malaysians including Haj pilgrims to be careful with information taken from the Internet.
“This is a world of cyber war and such false news were created to cause unnecessary anxiety among the people.
“This includes the news where the Malaysian currency is now not accepted in Mecca and Medina. This is totally absurd,” he said.
