BAGAN DATUK – The government is to consider providing a special allowance to all farmers’ organisations in the country, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said he would discuss the matter with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak soon to help farmers who he said had helped in the economic development of the nation.
“The fishermen get RM300 a month; paddy cultivators, RM600 a season, not to mention rubber tappers. What about farmers?” he said in his speech at the launch of a Perak-level farmers carnival in the compound of the Hutan Melintang Area Farmers Organisation office here today.
Also present were Deputy Agriculture Minister Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman and Farmers Organisation Authority chairman Tan Sri Zainal Dahalan. About 1,000 farmers from Perak attended the one-day carnival.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the MP for Bagan Datuk, said the special allowance would be a form of appreciation for the farmers’ contribution to the government agenda.
“It (the special allowance) is not about money. It is in appreciation of their help all this while. Their support will only grow stronger,” he said. – BERNAMA
