KUALA LUMPUR – Pahang, playing almost the entire second half with 10-man, managed to beat Myanmar’s Yadanarbon FC 3-2 at the Mandalar Thiri Stadium in an AFC Cup Group G match in Myanmar, last night.
Substitute R. Gopinathan was the hero of the Pahang side who were reduced to 10-man from the 55th minute after skipper Mohd Razman Roslan was given the marching orders, when he struck the winning goal in the 88th minute.
Pahang had started the match in style by a taking a 2-0 lead through a brace by import Dickson Nwakaeme who struck in the 5th and 12th minutes but Yadanarbon FC managed to reduce the deficit before half time when Pahang defender Damion Stewart scored an own goal in the 40th minute.
Pahang who set a fast and furious pace at the start of the second half, continued to torment the home side but disaster struck when Mohd Razman was shown the red card and Yadanarbon FC’s Ivory Coast import Djedje Maximin Djawa levelled the tie from the penalty spot.
Gopinathan who has been a livewire in the Pahang squad since his entry, managed to snatch the late winner to disappoint the home fans.
Pahang will next meet Global FC from the Philippines at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan on March 11. – Bernama
