MELAKA – Effective waste management at home is crucial to ensure a longer life span of dumping ground in the state, said Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.
He said as a small state, Melaka did not have the land to build a large dumping ground or to have many dumping ground sites.
The one and only rubbish dumping ground in the state at Sungai Udang, he said, could last only for another two years, from five years as expected, due to the high amount of waste produced by the people in Melaka.
“It has to start from home, how we manage our household waste,” he told reporters after opening the state government’s monthly assembly which was organised by Tabung Haji here today.
He believed that through education it could instill awareness in the society on the importance of waste management. – BERNAMA
