GEORGETOWN – Gerakan’s rise in Penang is important to enable a check and balance system in the state administration, said party president Datuk Mah Siew Keong.
He said Gerakan was confident of performing well in the next general election following the hard work put in by the party in the past two years to regain the people’s confidence besides new strategies to train young people to be (election) candidates.
“We hope the people of Penang will realise after two terms of DAP leading the state government, there is need for more checks and balance in the government,” he told reporters after opening the Penang Gerakan’s delegates’ conference, here today.
Furthermore, Mah said the recent Selangor Menteri Besar crisis had shown the people on how different the political ideologies were among the parties in Pakatan Rakyat who were staying together for just one purpose.
“It’s only to help each other to get votes. We hope the rakyat (people) can see through their real faces,” said Mah, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.
Mah said Gerakan leaders who performed well would be chosen to contest in the 14th general election regardless of race, adding that Gerakan not pay attention to race but who can be the best candidate.
He also urged Gerakan members and delegates to respect the leadership in the states and division, remain focused on issues and set aside petty differences. – BERNAMA
