PUTRAJAYA – Gerakan will submit its list of potential candidates for the 14th General Election (GE14) to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for screening before the list is finalised by Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Gerakan President Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong said the list, comprising both state and parliamentary candidates, would be screened by MACC to ensure they are cleared from corruption cases.
“If such a record is detected, we will straight away change before (the list) is submitted to the BN chairman. We want to ensure all Gerakan candidates have good records,” he told reporters after attending the Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry ‘Semarak’ Integrity programme here today.
Also present was MACC deputy chief commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Shamsun Baharin Mohd Jamil.
Mah said Gerakan had previously announced four individuals to be highlighted as its candidates in Selangor for GE14.
Nevertheless, he said the announcement would resume after MACC completed its vetting process.
Mah also said Gerakan would ink a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MACC on Saturday to allow both parties to cooperate to fight against corruption.
“We will seek advise from MACC on what we should and should not do,” he said. – BERNAMA
