KUALA LUMPUR – The general manager of a private company in Penang was killed after his car was rammed by a sand-laden trailer which had skidded into the opposite lane at km13.7 of the Middle Ring Road 2, Ampang bound, here, today.
Gombak Police Chief ACP Ali Ahmad said Tan Siew Tong, 51, who was driving a Toyota Camry died on the spot due to severe injury on his body and head in the 9am incident.
He said, three other vehicles were also involved in the accident, however, no one else suffered injury.
“The trailer was on a trip from Ampang to Kepong before it lost control and skidded into the opposite lane and subsequently overturned leaving it’s load blocking the traffic,” he said when contacted.
According to an observation by Bernama, the accident had caused traffic congestion for at least five kilometres.
Ali said Tan’s body had been sent to Selayang Hospital for post mortem, while the trailer driver was believed to have escaped the scene.
He said that the police were tracking down the driver, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by careless driving. – BERNAMA
