PUTRAJAYA- Datuk Dr Mohd Gazali Abas has been appointed as the new Education Ministry secretary-general, effective today.
The appointment of Mohd Gazali, who was formerly the Human Resources Ministry secretary-general, was announced by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.
Mohd Gazali replaces Datuk Seri Alias Ahmad, who retired on May 22.
Ali Hamsa said Mohd Gazali has a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics (Honours) from Universiti Malaya, a Business Management Bachelor’s Degree (Finance) from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom and a Doctorate in Philosophy (Information and Global Telecommunications) from Waseeda University, Japan.
“He has been in the public service for 32 years since he first joined the Administration and Diplomatic Services (PTD) on January 13, 1986.
“He also has vast experience in the field of economic and financial management as well as human capital development,” he said in a statement.
He expressed confidence that Mohd Gazali, given his knowledge, experience and credibility, can help carry out his duties effectively and continue the Education Ministry’s mission to uphold education standards.
Mohd Gazali had also served as the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN) director; deputy secretary-general (operations) of the Public Services Department; director of the Human Capital Development Section of the Economic Planning Unit; and as Network of Asia Pacific Schools and Institutes of Public Administration and Governance (NAPSIPAG) executive director.- New Straits Times
