KUALA TERENGGANU: Police have arrested the prime suspect in the murder of 34-year-old who was stabbed by his future brother-in-law and then went into hiding.
Terengganu CID chief Asst Comm Wan Abd Aziz Wan Hamzah said the 29-year-old suspect was found in Jalan Jeram, Kampung Petai Bubus, in Manir, here about noon Wednesday.
“He was exhausted and hungry when he was detained.
“We believe he had been hiding in one of the abandoned houses in Manir.
“He will be brought to court tomorrow for the police to obtain a remand order,” he told a press conference.
On investigations into the case, ACP Wan Abd Aziz said the 35cm-long kitchen knife used in the stabbing at the car park of the Terengganu Religious Department in Wisma Seri Iman on Sunday was handed to police by a friend of the suspect on Tuesday.
In the incident which occurred on Sunday, the suspect is alleged to have stabbed Mohd Sukri, the elder brother of the girl he was supposed to marry, after a heated argument.
The argument took place after the girl and her family came from Kelantan and learnt from the religious department that the suspect had lied about his marital status and had married a 24-year-old woman six years ago.
The bride-to-be and other members of her family are said to have witnessed the stabbing at the car park of the religious department.
Police arrived to find Mohd Sukri’s body in a pool of blood with six stab wounds to the neck and chest.
