KUALA LUMPUR – Four teams, Kedah, Felda United, PKNS FC and Lions XII of Singapore have booked their berths to Malaysia Cup quarter-finals after winning their respective last group matches.
They will join three other teams, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), Selangor and defending champions, Pahang which had qualified earlier.
In group A, Kedah beat JDT II 4-2 at Pasir Gudang Stadium in Johor Baharu.
The four goals of the visitors were netted by Chidi Edeh in the 17th minute, Mohd Syazwan Zainon (61st minute), Muhammad Syafiq Ahmad (69th minute) and Liridon Krasniqi (76th minute) while Nicolas Delmonte and Muhammad Akram scored for JDT II in the 24th and 27th minute respectively.
At Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium, Kuala Terengganu, Christopher Van Huizen scored in the 89th minute to aid Lions XII upset Terengganu 2-1 in another group A match.
Earlier, the two teams were tied at 1-1 when Diyaul Rahman Hasry opened the score for Terengganu in the 14th minute before Sufian Anuar equalised for the visitors one minute later.
Felda United edged Selangor 3-2 in a group C match at Selayang Stadium and booked their berth to the quarter-finals while Selangor had qualified earlier.
The three goals of The Fighters were scored by Thiago Augusto in the 48th minute and 50th minute apart from an own goal by Robert Cornthwaite of Selangor in the 65th minute while Shazlan Alias and Guilherme De Paula netted for The Red Giants in the 32nd minute and a penalty in the 89th minute respectively.
At Sultan Muhammad Ke-IV Stadium, Kota Bharu, Kelantan easily beat T-Team 3-1 but that was not enough to move into the quarter-finals.
The host’s three goals were contributed by Austin Amutu in the 35th and 55th minute apart from an own goal by Gilmar Da Silva in the 40th minute while T-Team ‘s consolation goal was scored by Tomislav Busic in the 63rd minute.
In group D, PKNS FC blasted police 3-0 at Shah Alam Stadium to top the table and joined Pahang in the quarter-finals.
The three goals of PKNS FC were scored by Gabriel Guerra in the 10th minute, Patrick Ronaldinho Wleh (24th minute) and Fazli Baharuddin in the 88th minute.
Pahang which had qualified for the quarter-finals, played to a goalless draw with Penang at Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan.
Meanwhile, in group B, Armed Forces (ATM) and Sarawak drew 2-2 at Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi.
ATM scored through Abdulafees Abdulsalam in the 34th minute and a penalty by Jerry Palacios in the 60th minute while Patrick Gerhardt scored in the 16th minute and Ryan Griffiths netted in the 56th minute for Sarawak.
Sarawak, in the second spot of the group needed just a draw in their next encounter against JDT in Larkin while ATM in the third placing needed to defeat Perak at Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium, Paroi in the chase for a slot in the top eight teams.
Both matches will be held on Nov 21.
