KUALA LUMPUR – Four Malaysian men’s singles players moved into the third round of the Korea Open Badminton Grand Prix (GP) 2014 at the Jeonju Indoor Badminton Court, South Korea.
According to the World Badminton Federation website www.bwfbadminton.org Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif, Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, Tan Kian Meng (pic) and Goh Soon Huat advanced to the third round after winning their respective matches.
Mohamad Arif who is seeded fourth in the tournament, edged Gyung Bo Ko from the host nation, 20-22, 21-14, 21-13 in a three-set thriller to face Tan Kian Meng in an all-Malaysian affair today.
Kian Meng who is the 13th seed here, beat another player from the host nation, Kim Dong Ryung 21-19, 21-17.
Soon Huat, the 10th seed in the competition had to dig deep into his reserves to overcome Hong Kong’s Tak Ching Chang 21-19, 20-22, 21-16 in another three-set thriller.
He will now meet Iskandar who beat Thailand’s Tankmanustong Warut 21-18, 19-21, 21-17, in yet another all-Malaysian affair.
The GP offers total prize money of US$50,000 (RM167,282).
