LIPIS – Four passengers of Mutiara express bus travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bharu suffered light injuries when the bus crashed into the back of a timber lorry at Kilometre 42 of Lipis-Merapoh Highway Centre Spine Road (CSR) here, early this morning.
Lipis district police chief Supt Azry Akmar Ayob said it was believed the 1.45 a.m. accident was caused by the bus driver, who was sleepy.
“The 23-year-old bus driver knocked the right side of the timber lorry which was travelling from Jerantut to Gua Musang and caused four passengers in the front seats to suffer light injuries.
“The injured passengers were sent to the Lipis Hospital while another 24 passengers including the co-driver who escaped unhurt were transferred to another bus and continued their journey,” he said when contacted, here today.
Azry Akmar added the bus driver from Tumpat, Kelantan and the timber lorry driver aged 59 also escaped unhurt.
Due to the accident the bus was damaged at the front while the timber lorry was unaffected, he said. – BERNAMA
