The Shah Alam High Court had sentenced a man, who is  the former member of popular R&B group Ruffedge, to 20 years in prison and 10 strokes of the cane for raping his stepdaughter, two years ago.
Justice Nurchaya Arshad rejected the accused’s appeal and passed the sentence on the 37-year-old man after the defence failed to raise any reasonable doubt at the end of the defence’s case.
She further added that the Sessions Court believed the sentence was equitable to his multiple offences.
“A father should be the protector, the one that keeps his children safe,” she said.
“Rape, more so when it is incestuous, is very traumatic and could scar the victim for life.”
“We wouldn’t want the female figures in our families to have to go through this, be it our mothers, sisters, or daughters,” added Nurchaya.
According to the charge, the accused, who was a former member of a singing group and sometime actor, raped his stepdaughter, now 14, since she was 7 years old.
Previously, the victim’s mother confessed to TV3’s entertainment show Melodi that her daughter acted strange, wore layers upon layers of clothing and have suspicious bruises on her body before admitting that the teen was repeatedly raped by her husband.
The accused was charged under Section 376 (3) of the Penal Code, which carried a jail sentence of not less than eight years and not more than 30 years, and whipping of not less than 10 strokes.MYNEWSHUB
