KUALA LUMPUR – Former PAS Youth treasurer Mohd Fakhrulrazi Mohd Mokhtar was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today over the ‘#KitaLawan’ assembly which was held to give support to opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Mohd Fakhrulrazi, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
He was charged with uttering seditious remarks in calling for Anwar’s release. Anwar is currently serving a five-year jail sentence after being found guilty of sodomising his personal assistant Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
The offence was allegedly committed in front of the Sogo Complex, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, at 4.30 pm last Feb 21.
The charge, under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948, provides a maximum fine of RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to three years, or both, if found guilty.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhd Ilmami Ahmad, who prosecuted, offered bail at RM3,000 in one surety and for Mohd Fakhrulrazi to surrender his passport to the court.
However, Mohd Fakhrulrazi’s lawyer, Noorazmir Zakaria, objected to the bail amount and for his client to surrender his passport to the court.
Magistrate Muhamad Faizal Ismail then set bail at RM1,000 in one surety and fixed Dec 11 for mention. – BERNAMA
