GEORGETOWN – A female student who was found dead with slash wounds on her neck at her home in Teluk Kumbar near here yesterday was raped before she was murdered by her boyfriend, said Penang CID chief, Datuk Zakaria Ahmad.
He said this was revealed by a man, aged 20, who was detained by police to help with investigations into the case.
Zakaria said he did it because he was jealous that the student had another boyfriend.
“The man who worked as a security guard at a school in Bayan Lepas had a key to the victim’s house and he was believed to have entered it early yesterday morning about 6 am.
“At that time, the girl was alone because her parents had returned to her grandmother’s house in Bayan Lepas. Police are investigating how the man had the key to the house,” he told a press conference here today.
Yesterday, the body of Intan Suraya Mawardi, 17, a student of a secondary school in Teluk Kumbar was found by her father lying on a bed and covered in a blanket when he returned home at 7.30 pm.
Zakaria said the man who had a drug-related criminal record was detained in
Teluk Kumbar about two hours after the student’s body was found and he admitted
to killing her.
He said the man also brought police to the place where he had discarded the knives which were used to kill the victim, in a hole nearby a substation by the school where he worked.
“Police found two knives which had been wrapped in a blood-stained in a small white tudung accessory believed to be owned by the victim, and the investigations discovered that the knives had been taken from her house.
“Police also recovered the victim’s handphone which had been discarded at the suspect’s workplace,” he said.
He added that based on investigations, the man who had known the victim from early this year, entered her house to kill her because he was angry and jealous.
“The victim was believed to have been killed about seven to eight hours before her body was found,” he said.
Zakaria said urine tests found the man tested negative for drugs and that he was being remanded for seven days to help in the investigations.
The student was buried at the Masjid Sungai Batu Muslim Cemetery at about 5 pm today.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, Zakaria said the body of a man believed to be a foreigner, was found with several wounds on his head and body at Jalan Kongsi 5, Sungai Bakap in Nibong Tebal near here yesterday.
The man, who was clad only in a pair of long trousers and believed to have been killed elsewhere before his body was left by the roadside covered in a blanket, was found by passers-by at about 10.40 am.
“The man, in his late 20s, died from severe wounds in the head, believed to have been caused by rock. There were no documents on him,” he said.
He urged members of the public who had a friends or employee missing, and who had information relating to the incident, to contact the nearest police station to help in the investigations. – BERNAMA
