KUALA LUMPUR – “I do not know how to make a living after this,” said a food seller famous for ‘gulai kawah’ after her stall in Jalan AU2 B, Taman Keramat, Hulu Klang, was destroyed in a fire this afternoon.
The 25 year-old food seller who declined to be identified said she was resting in her stall when she smelled something burning coming from the kitchen.
“I rushed to the check and saw a fire raging. Shocked, I shouted for family members to flee the burning stall,” she said when met at the scene.
The food seller who has been in business for seven years in Taman Keramat said five other food stalls were also destroyed in the fire.
Meanwhile, jamu seller Che Umi Mohd Hashim,49, described the fire as a test as she has only been in business there for six months.
“I was speechless when told by a worker that my stall was destroyed in a fire at 4.30pm,” she added.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue chief Samsol Maarif Saibani said two fire engines with 15 firemen from Keramat and Setapak stations rushed to the scene when informed of the fire at 3pm.
“When we arrived, the fire was spreading quickly and engulfed the stalls and a Ford Ranger pick-up truck. Firemen took 20 minutes to control the fire.”
