KUALA LUMPUR – Defending champion, Thailand and Vietnam kicked off their campaign in the 2015 SEA Games with a perfect start after whipping their respective opponents in the Group B opening encounter at Bishan Stadium in Singapore, yesterday.
Thailand who is gunning for their fifteen gold medal in the biennial games, whipped Laos 6-0 in tonight’s match while Vietnam who emerged victorious in the first SEA Games known as SEAP Games in 1959 in Thailand, mauled Brunei with the same scoreline in the match played in the evening.
Pombubpha Chananan was a toast of the War Elephant’s squad after he scored four goals in the 19th minute, 47th minute, 62nd minute and 74th minute, as quoted in the SEA Games website;www.seagames2015.com.
Two other goals was netted by Weerawatnodom Narubadin in the 10th minute and Sriyankem Nurul in the 38th minute.
Vietnam, on the other hand, earned their goals through Le Thanh Binh in the 24th minute, Tran Phi Son (47th minute), Mac Hong Quan (75th minute), Pham Duc Huy (78th minute) , Nguyen Cong Phuong (82nd minute) and Pham Manh Hung, seven minutes later.
Malaysia who also drawn in Group B, will open up their campaign against minnow, Timor Leste at the same venue, tomorrow.
The opening match in Group A at the Jalan Besar Stadium involving hosts Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia and Philippines will kicks off on June 1.
