KUALA LUMPUR – The floods in Sarawak worsened this evening, sending more people to evacuation centres.
As of 6 pm, 3,892 people had been moved out of their homes in the state, up from 3,458 in the afternoon.
The number of evacuees in Kelantan and Perak remained at 354 and 80, respectively, unchanged from the afternoon.
In SARAWAK, two more relief centres were opened this evening, raising to 26 the number of such centres opened in the state.
A spokesman of the Sarawak National Security Council (NSC) said there were 2,119 evacuees in the Kuching division, 717 in Samarahan, 519 in Mukah and 537 in Limbang.
He also said that 33 schools remained closed due to the floods, but added that the weather had improved.
In KELANTAN, the 354 evacuees are being housed at nine relief centres in Kuala Krai.
Their houses had been destroyed or washed away by the floodwaters which struck last month.
In PERAK, a spokesman of the Perak NSC said there were 46 evacuees in the Perak Tengah district and 34 in Hulu Perak. – BERNAMA
