KUALA LUMPUR – More than 60 cabin trailers have been readied for use during this monsoon season in flood affected areas to stock up on food supplies.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said the Social Welfare Department was also increasing its stockpiles at five depots.
“Five of the depots are located in Bedong (Kedah), Sungai Buloh (Selangor), Kumumin (Kelantan), Marang (Terengganu) and Muar (Johor),†she said at press conference after launching the 2015 World Disaster Report here today.
Rohani said the department had been stocking the depots since Nov 1 with basic necessities and dry food to ensure enough supplies for five days to flood victims at any one time.
On the report, she said it examined complex and challenging relationships between local and international volunteers responding to crises.
“The report presents the case for a shift to the localisation of aid and equal partnerships,†she said.
Rohani, who is also the Malaysian Red Crescent President, will represent the country at the International Conference of The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in Geneva from Dec 8 to 10. – BERNAMA
