KOTA BHARU – Operations to evacuate over 400 flood victims to the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Manek Urai flood relief centre is underway despite difficulties following strong currents and rising water levels.
Kuala Krai police chief Supt Ab Rahim Che Ghani said a rescue team was sent to the school since yesterday.
“Rescue operations resume today with the help of the Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Department and General Operations Force which were sent there this morning,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
Ab Rahim said according to reports received, all victims were moved to the third floor of the three-storey building as flood water had already reached the second floor.
He said the operation also faced problems with communication.
Ab Rahim added that rescue operations are also ongoing in Kampung Batu Jong, Kampung Bedal, Kampung Kuala Nal and Kampung Laloh. – BERNAMA
