KUCHING – The flood situation in Sarawak is improving with only one relief centre still open, after another closed this morning.
The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBNS) said in a statement that until 8pm only the relief centre at Mukah Suarah Hall was open, housing 14 victims from four families.
In Bintulu, the evacuation centre at the Tatau Sports Hall was closed at about 11.30am after all 59 victims from 17 families were allowed to return to their respective homes today.
However, five areas in Beluru district in Miri were found to be inundated in about three and five feet of water, while nine schools in Dalat, Mukah, Baram and Selangau districts, comprising 532 students, were still closed.
The situation is expected to gradually improve in Sarawak following good weather conditions over the last few days. – BERNAMA
