KUALA LUMPUR – Five young Malaysian golfers are among the 120-strong field of players to tee-off at the 2014 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship to be held at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia from Oct 23 to 26.
In a statement, the organiser, the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC), said they were Mohd Afif Mohd Razif, Muhammad Wafiyuddin Abdul Manas, Chan Tuck Soon, Low Khai Jei and Ervin Chang.
Besides them, a few other top golfers have confirmed their participation in the tournament such as former 2012 champions, Guan Tianlang of China as well as South Korean Gunn Yang, who won the United States Amateur Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club in Georgia, last month.
The champions will receive an invitation to compete in the Masters Tournament in April 2015 in the United States beside an exemption into the Amateur Championship which is conducted by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club (The R&A) in Scotland, the statement said.
It also said that the winner, along with the runner-up, would get a place in The Open Qualifying Series with the opportunity to play at the prestigious 2015 Open Championship to be held at the St Andrews’s Club Old Course in Scotland. – Bernama
