TAIPING – Five men were arrested on suspicion of drug abuse in a Commercial Vehicle Integrated Operation at Km 225 of the North-South Expressway, near the Bukit Gantang stop here, last night.
State Public Order and Traffic Department chief Supt Wan Jamil Wan Chik said four lorry drivers and a motorcyclist, in their 30s, were detained in the three-hour operation which began at 9 pm.
He said the police also found a drug paraphernalia in one of the lorries which were stopped.
“We will hand over the five men to the National Anti-Drugs Agency (NADA) for further action,” he told reporters after the operation.
The operation was carried out by 67 personnel, including the police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, Road Transport Department, NADA, and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Wan Jamil said a total of 50 commercial vehicles such as lorries and buses were inspected, with 31 summonses issued by JPJ and 21 by the police, for various offences. – BERNAMA
