GEORGE TOWN – A fisherman and his son who were stranded at sea after their boat cracked during stormy weather, were rescued by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), yesterday evening.
Penang Maritime 2 chief, First Admiral Kamaruszaman Abu Hassan said Ong Choo Peen, 54, from Kuala Kurau, Perak and Ong Chee Wee, 32, were located by an MMEA team about 10 nautical miles southwest off Pulau Kendi near here.
“The MMEA was alerted about the victims by the Penang Traffic Control Centre. When found, the victims were in life jackets and had been in the water for one day.
“We understand that their boat broke after being battered by waves in stormy weather and sank on June 26 around 8 pm,” he said in a statement here Sunday.
He said the victims had some minor injuries and were transported to the police marine jetty at Batu Uban before being sent to Penang Hospital. – BERNAMA
