PENANG: A total 278 haj pilgrimsÂ arrived at the Penang International Airport here today.
They were the first batch of Haj pilgrims from Penang to return from theÂ Holy Land.
State Tabung Haji director Wahyudin Tamimi said the group took off in theÂ KT21 aircraft at 9.40pm Saudi Arabian time and arrived here at 11.40am localÂ time.
“There will be five more flights bringing 1,396 haj pilgrims from Oct 23 toÂ Nov 5,” he told reporters when receiving the haj pilgrims.
He said the haj pilgrims returning home today omprising 130 males and 148Â females were healthy and their journey had been smooth.
One of the pilgrims, Kamal Rusdi Hashim, 24, said he was thankful atÂ being able to perform the haj at the age of 24, in light of fellow pilgrims whoÂ had health problems and had to be assisted.
The Universiti Malaysia Perlis Biomedical Electronic Engineering graduateÂ was also amazed at the reception given by the residents of Mecca and Madinah whoÂ dubbed Malaysian pilgrims ‘Birds from Heaven’. — BERNAMA
