KOTA BHARU – Fire destroyed a row of six wooden shop houses at Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra, here this morning.
Kota Baharu Fire and Rescue Station assistant chief Zaini Bidin said shops belonged to three traders who were involved in electrical goods, car accessories and aluminum material.
“There were no casualties in the 8am fire. The cause of the fire and estimated losses is under investigation,” she told reporters at the scene.
Zaini said 49 firefighters in nine fire engines from Kota Baharu, Pengkalan Chepa, Pasir Tumboh, Tunjong, Kota Darulnaim and Rantau Panjang were deployed to the site and brought the fire under control.
Meanwhile, one of the owners, Shafinaz Wong, 33, said she was with her child when she heard a loud explosion from the next shop house.
“We were staying in the shop house since our house is still under construction,” said the owner who sells aluminum material. – BERNAMA
