Fire Destroys Religious School Dormitories

SEREMBAN – A fire destroyed two dormitories occupied by 85 male students of the Sekolah Tinggi Islam As Sofa (STIAS), Rembau early today.

No one was injured in the fire which occurred at 1.58 am.

Rembau Fire and Rescue station chief Mohd Fuad Majid said 27 firemen from Rembau, Senawang and Seremban stations put out the blaze in almost 30 minutes after being notified.

The cause of the fire and damage had yet to be ascertained, he said when contacted by Bernama.

Meanwhile, In REMBAU, Negeri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said initial investigations revealed that the fire was not caused by faulty wiring.

Norazam said an inspection by the department last year found that the school wiring system was in a good condition.

“We found that the wiring system in the school followed the set SOP. The dormitories also have two emergency exits.

“This year, this is the first fire case involving boarding school and tahfiz (in Negeri Sembilan). Last year, we had inspected all tahfiz schools including this school and everything was in good condition,” he told reporters here.- BERNAMA
