PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the Opposition to fight for the people, not Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s agenda.
Admitting that he wrote a letter to PKR leaders on the issue, the party de facto chief told leaders working with the former premier to remember their commitment to the people.
Anwar said he had written the letter while he was in court and asked that people read his original text in Malay.
“Although at the initial stage, (the letter’s) purpose was for the leadership, as it has been circulated now, I ask that people read it,†he told reporters while being escorted by prison officers at the Federal Court registry on Monday.
Anwar was in court for case management of a review application over his sodomy conviction.
On April 30 last year, Anwar filed an application to get a fresh panel of judges to review his conviction and five-year jail term for sodomy on the grounds of injustice.
On the Opposition’s co-operation with Dr Mahathir with regard to the Citizens’ Declaration, Anwar asked that leaders not follow the former prime minister’s agenda.
“I say the question of maintaining the co-operation does not exist. Do not forget the agenda. Do not follow his (Dr Mahathir) agenda. Follow the agenda of the people,†he said.
“Do not follow the crony system, corruption and the past cruelty. That is the meaning of my message,†he added.
