ALOR SETAR – A fisherman believed to have drowned at sea about two nautical
miles off Kuala Kedah has been rescued by other fishermen, according to the
Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency.
MMEA said in a statement that the fisherman, in his 50s, was rescued at
about 10.30am yesterday after he hung on to a buoy.
It said a fisherman had notified the MMEA Kuala Kedah base at about 8pm
about the rescue.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that a fight occurred among fishermen
on a boat and the fisherman jumped into the sea to escape getting hurt. The MMEA
brought the complainant to the Kuala Kedah police station for further
investigation,” the statement said.
The MMEA had launched a search for the fisherman after it was notified of
his disappearance, but called off the search at 7pm yesterday due to failing
light. – Bernama
