PUTRAJAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today stressed that Felda’s political and economic strength were vital in assisting Barisan Nasional (BN) retain the parliamentary and state seats where Felda land schemes exist.

Najib, who is also Finance Minister, said 54 parliamentary and 92 state seats across the country were dependent on support from the Felda community.

“If the Felda community who are generally BN supporters remain loyal, the 54 parliamentary seats and 92 state seats will be safe.

“Imagine, if the seats are in the hands of the government, definitely Felda deserves to be called a political power house,” the prime minister said in his speech at the event, ‘Salam Perantau Warga Felda 2015’, here, yesterday.

Najib said Felda needed to strive to become a political power house and an economic power house to ensure future success.

“We need to have a two-pronged approach if we want to play a bigger role as the strength of the two is interlinked,” he said.

Najib said it was the government’s wish to continue seeing Felda remaining true to the original aim of its establishment, that was, to give the best land to hardworking citizens and with the spirit as settlers.

He noted that currently, there were 317 Felda land schemes across the country which benefited 112,000 families, bringing the total number of the Felda community to around two million.

“This means the Felda community is not only big, but can also contribute greatly to national development and nationhood,” he said.

At the event, the prime minister also urged the Felda Publicity Unit to create a data base to gather the Felda community in the Klang Valley, estimated to be around 50,000 in number.

“But what I hope for is not just developing the data base but also providing a communuication link between members of the Felda community in the data base.

“This is to enable them to play a role in assisting the government explain government policies and current issues to the Felda community at large, besides contributing to driving the nation forward,” he said.
