MARAN – Head coach Irfan Bakti Abu Salim hopes that Felda United’s 3-1 win over Negeri Sembilan in a Malaysia Cup tie last night is the start of good things for his team.
“Collecting three points in the first match after a seven week break is great although we did not play that well,” he told reporters after the Malaysia Cup match at Tun Abdul Razak Stadium, Jengka last night.
Irfan Bakti said he has identified several weaknesses of the team in the match against Negeri Sembilan and hopes to rectify them immediately.
“The players are poor in passing, cannot hold the ball for long and are not fast enough. Maybe we will play as usual after two or three games,”
He said the return of several key players from injury is expected to improve Felda United’s performance.
Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan head coach Gary Michael Philips said his team made many mistakes and that Felda’s first goal was due to some sloppy play.
“Felda United may be a strong team but my players were still able to create some goal scoring chances. They need to learn from the mistakes,” he added.
In KUALA TERENGGANU, T-Team head coach Rachmad Darmawan said poor concentration by the players proved costly as they were punished by two quick goals by Johor Darul Takzim II (JDT II).
“Initially, we controlled play and led by two goals. However, 10 minutes of poor concentration cost us three points,” he told reporters last night.
T-Team ended with one point after they drew 2-2 with JDT II in a Malaysia Cup tie at Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium, Kuala Terengganu, last night. – BERNAMA
