KUALA LUMPUR – Club side Felda United have signed two import players to beef up the squad for next season’s M-League title challenge.
Felda United deputy president Datuk Mohd Isa Abu Kassim said Lutfulla Turaev from Uzbekistan and Brazilian Gilberto Carlos Marangino were brought in to replace Makeche Ndumba and Bojan Milandinovic whose contracts had ended.
According to Mohd Isa, Turaev, 27, had played for Lokomotiv Tashkent while Gilberto Carlos, 25, represented Club Bragantino.
“We hope the signing of the new players will help improve Felda United’s fortune in the M-League. I am confident we can achieve the targeted Key Performance Index next season,” he said after witnessing players signing their new contract at Dewan Perdana Felda, here today.
Felda United under coach Irfan Bakti Abu Salim are hoping to lift at least one trophy next season.
Apart from the two new signings, Felda United has retained two of its former imports Thiago Augusto Fernandes from Brazil and Zah Rahan Krangar from Liberia together with new local signings Shukor Jusoh, Idris Ahmad and Mohammad Ridzuan Abdunloh.
Among players dropped from the squad are Indra Putra Mahayuddin, Mohd Nasriq Baharom, Fauzan Zulkifli, Mohamad Rashid Mohamad Aya, Qhairul Anuar Roslani, Mohamad Soffuan Tawil, Abdul Latiff Suhaimi and Shahrulnizam Mustapa.
Last season, the 2014 FA Cup runner up had shocked Johor Darul Ta’zim in the Malaysia Cup quarterfinals but lost to Kedah in the semifinals.
Mohd Isa said Felda United have also been selected to represent the country in the 2016 Bangabandhu Gold Cup held in Bangladesh from Jan 8 to 20.
Felda United are drawn in Group A with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal while Bahrain, Maldives, Cambodia and the Bangladesh Olympic Squad are in Group B.
Felda United play their first game on Jan 9 against Nepal at the Shams-Ul-Huda Stadium in Jessore before facing Bangladesh (Jan 12) and Sri Lanka (Jan 14) at the same venue. – BERNAMA
