KUALA LUMPUR – Felda United will not let the club licence debacle in the last season distract their attention when they appear in the Premier League this season.
Felda United president Datuk Ab Ghani Mohd Ali admitted their team had to face the fact and returned to competitive football to clinch the Premier League title and earn promotion back to Super League in 2019.
Despite finishing third in the 2017 Super League, the team was relegated after failing to obtain a club licence from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) .
“Despite playing in the Premier League, the players should continue to give their best in the campaign and I am confident the club could bag the Premier League championship this season. Our target is to emerge as Premier League champions and get back to the Super League.
“The one giving the licence is a higher body, Felda United as an affiliate member of FAM will comply with every procedure. This year, we will give our full commitment to FAM,” he told reporters after introducing Felda United players and officers for the Premier League competition at Menara Felda here.
Earlier, Ab Ghani signed contracts with four import players namely Gilberto Fortunato, Thiago Junior Aqino, Thiago Augusto Fernandes of Brazil and Iain Ramsay of Australia.
In this regard, Felda United also received a RM400,00 sponsorship from Universal Fitness and Leisure Sdn Bhd for one year for all Felda football teams, the main team, under-19 and under-21 teams as well as Felda futsal men’s and women’s squads.
Ab Ghani said the overall expenditure for the Felda United football teams this year was RM15 million compared to RM25 million last year. “Even though the cost is lower this year, we will work hard to secure more sponsors to meet the operation cost of all teams, he added. – BERNAMA
