PUTRAJAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Najib Tun Razak today handed over Kumpulan Felda’s zakat payment for 2014 totalling RM23.1 million to 14 state zakat centres nationwide.
Out of the total amount, RM18.3 million was paid by Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad; Koperasi Permodalan Felda (RM4.1 million); Koperasi Kakitangan Felda Malaysia Berhad (RM121,476) and Koperasi Pekerja Felda Malaysia Berhad (RM39,357).
Najib handed over the Kumpulan Felda zakat payment to the representative of the zakat centre of each state, which among others, comprised menteri besars; chief ministers and state government exco members at the prime minister’s official residence in Seri Perdana here.
Earlier Najib broke fast and performed the maghrib prayers with cabinet ministers and deputy ministers; foreign envoys and representatives; senior government and government-linked companies (GLC) officers.
Meanwhile a statement issued by Felda said Kumpulan Felda’s continuous business growth had enabled it to pay zakat and subsequently help more needy Muslims.
“It cannot be denied that the existence of Felda has also helped in the prosperity of the community and country as a whole, said the statement.
At the function, Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor also handed over donations to 50 orphans from the Kuala Lumpur Insaniah Srikandi Welfare Organisation before performing the Tarawih prayers with their guests.- BERNAMA
