in Latest

BUTTERWORTH: The father of the 19-year-old woman who drove against traffic flow and allegedly caused the death of a man on Tuesday, revealed that his daughter sneaked out of the house to meet her friends on Monday night.

The father, who only wanted to be known as Ng, said he only knew his daughter, Ng Pei Ven, caused the accident at 9.15am.

“I was in a state of confusion as it happened so suddenly.

“I need some time to calm my emotions and thoughts and speak to my daughter before deciding on the next move to handle this matter,” he told theSun yesterday.

Yesterday, Pei Ven claimed trial at the magistrate’s court to taking Amphetamines, an offence under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which is punishable under Section 15 (1) of the same act.

If convicted, she faces a maximum jail term of two years or a fine of up to RM5,000.

Magistrate Jamaliah Abd Manap granted bail at RM5,000 with two sureties and fixed May 12 for mention.

Ng, a motorcycle mechanic, added that up to this moment, he still does not know what to do as there were too many rumours and comments from the public, especially netizens.

“I have been having sleepless night these past few days. As parents, we feel sad and sorry over the incident,” he said.

Asked whether he will seek a lawyer to assist Pei Ven on the matter, he said they had not discussed it yet.

Ng said Pei Ven was a slow learner and is currently unemployed.

He added that she would normally stay at home and watch television programmes and he did not know about her friends.

In the 7.50am incident, Pei Ven allegedly made a U-turn at KM128 of the North South Expressway (NSE) when she claimed she saw a stalled lorry.

The U-turn resulted in her going against traffic flow and she grazed against three vehicles but continued driving. The drivers of the three vehicles suffered light injuries.

She continued to drive for some 5km against traffic before crashing into the car driven by Mohamad Fandi Rosli, 26, at KM134 of the NSE killing him on the spot. – The Sun
