GEORGE TOWN – The charred remains of four members of a family including two children were recovered at a house that was razed early this morning at Pintasan Cecil 5, Pengkalan Weld here.
The bodies of two women and a girl were found in the living room while that of a boy was found on the upper floor of the double storey cluster house.
The victims were aged between eight and 62 years but their identities have not been ascertained.
Lebuh Pantai Fire Station chief Mohd Rozairi Abdul Rahim said firefighters arrived at the scene about nine minutes following a distress call at 6.08 am.
“The fire was blazing by then, and we took about 20 minutes to control and prevent it from spreading to the other houses. We managed to put out the fire completely by 7.10 am,” he said here today.
Mohd Rozairi said the victims failed to escape as the fire had already spread; furthermore, the house only had one door for entry and exit.
He said the remains were sent to Penang Hospital for post-mortem and investigations being conducted on the cause of the fire and estimated losses.
