TASEK GELUGOR – The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) plans to take legal action against those failing to comply with the Grading, Packaging and Labelling (GPL) regulation.
FAMA Director of Enforcement Division, Mohd Nawawi Harun said stern action must be taken because there were still traders who did not follow the GPL direction.
“FAMA plans to charge those failing to comply with the GPL regulation in court. Currently, those who do not follow the regulation are only given reminders, warning letters and seizure of the vegetables and fruits sold,” he said.
Mohd Nawawi disclosed this to reporters after the launching of the GPL Compliance at the Penang state level, officiated by Sungai Dua State Assemblyman Muhammad Yusoff Mohd Noor, in Tasek Gelugor, Sunday.
He said that as of October last year, a total of 669 warning letters had been issued to exporters, importers, wholesalers and retailers of vegetables and fruits for failing to comply with the GPL regulations. – BERNAMA
