YANGON – The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will present Mohd Faiz Subri with a special prize if he wins the Puskas Award in Zurich, Switzerland on January 9.
Its general secretary, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said they were proud that FIFA has picked Mohd Faiz’s goal as among the 10 most beautiful of the year.
“The nomination is good for Malaysian football since the goal has caught attention of netizens. I hope the goal can win the Puskas Award.
“I would like to congratulate Mohd Faiz Subri on this nomination,” said Hamidin who is also the manager of Harimau Malaysia, here, today.
Mohd Faiz’s beautiful goal was among 10 goals nominated for the 2016 Puskas Award (most beautiful goal of the year.
In GEORGE TOWN, Mohd Faiz said he was excited to line-up against two of the world’s top players, Lionel Messi of Argentina and Neymar of Brazil.
“Of course, its not easy to compete with them, but win or lose, it has inspired me to become a better player.”
The Penang player did not have high expectation for the award but as the only Malaysian listed, he hopes his success will bring honour to the country.
“Nomination for the Puskas Award is the highest recognition throughout my career as a footballer,” he added.
Mohd Faiz scored the wonder goal in Penang’s 4-1 demolition of Pahang in a Super League match on Feb 16. – BERNAMA
