KUALA LUMPUR – The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has directed former Harimau Muda B player, Syahrul Azwari Ibrahim who had been confirmed to play for Sarawak, must return to his home-state, Kelantan this season.

The FAM Status Committee, which met today, emphasised that Syahrul Azwari must return to Kelantan as his football career started in the east coast state.

The football parent body stated that the 23-year-old player must discuss with the Kelantan Football Association (KAFA) within seven days from today if the state was still interested to use his services.

“However, the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) can still discuss officially with KAFA within seven days from the date the terms of the decision was received, if it is still keen to hire the player,” according to FAM in a statement, here Friday.

Following the decision, the parent body explained that the contract signed by Syahrul Azwari with FAS in December 2015 was void as both parties did not follow the procedure specified in releasing a player.

FAM deputy president Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah was earlier reported as saying that players of the Harimau Muda team, which had been dissolved, should return to their respective home state.

KAFA earlier lodged a complaint with the FAM Status Committee after claiming that FAS refused to release the player who originated from Tanah Merah, Kelantan who was reported to have signed a contract with them.
