SHAH ALAM – The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) do not rule out imposing fines on teams withdrawing from the FAM Cup next season.
Its deputy president, Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah said this was to prevent teams from using financial constraints as reason to withdraw from the FAM Cup, formerly known as the FAM League.
“We do not want teams to compete only half-way. They must be financially strong to compete in the FAM Cup,” he told a press conference after the draw for the FAM Cup, President’s Cup and the Youth Cup competitions here Sunday.
Afandi said the FAM was also ready to consider a proposal to use foreign players in the FAM Cup to spice up the tournament which was first introduced in 1952.
However, the matter will have to be brought before the FAM Executive Committee for a decision. – BERNAMA
