GEORGETOWN – Mohd Faiz Subri, the player who scored a wonder goal which made the football world sit up and take notice, today received a RM10,000 incentive from the Penang state government.
The cheque was presented by Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in a simple ceremony at his office here today.
Also present were Football Association of Penang (FAP) president Datuk Seri Nazir Ariff Mushir Ariff and Penang head coach Jackson F Tiago.
Mohd Faiz, who who scored the wonder goal through a free kick, said the incentive given by the Penang state government will boost his performance in future matches.
“The attention or publicity that I receive has not affected my focus during training for the upcoming matches,” he added.
Mohd Faiz’s free kick from 25 metres out swerved in mid air and dipped into the right corner of the net in a Super League match between Penang and Pahang on Feb 16.
The video recording of the wonder goal became viral online and was picked by several international news portals.
The British newspaper The Independent (www.independent.co.uk) said the wonder goal has a good chance of winning FIFA’s Puskas Award 2016 as the ‘Goal of the Year.’ – BERNAMA
